Abstract

With trivial exceptions, marketing boards for agricultural products fall into two distinct categories: first, boards endowed by government with monopoly power in the sale of controlled products; second, marketing boards similarly endowed with monopsony power in the purchase of controlled products. The former function mainly in advanced countries, the latter in certain poor countries.
